Along with the growth and expansion of cities, day to day increase of the population, increase in the number of vehicles and development of communication, the complexity of the transportation system and its related problems is increased too. These problems cause heavy and costly expenses on the system and the consumers and if it is not dealt appropriately, it is going to have a negative effect on the other aspects of the society.

Structural and operational problems of the transportation system in the big cities in Iran have been developed since a long time ago and is increasing daily. A variety of solutions and plans have been considered to solve these problems and some actions have been taken, and each, has had a great share in improvement of the transportation system in these cities. These actions include:

Repair or development and Construction of the roads and highways, development and reinforcement of the public transportation system, and implementing the management procedures in control and traffic navigation systems.

Despite all there actions, the big cities still have many traffic problems.
Because of this, giving proper and suitable solutions are immutable with using proper methods and based on scientific principles, besides, social, economical and cultural condition will influence on selection and choice of suggested solutions. Today, regarding economical – social condition of big cities, each kind of programming and investing capital at the direction of development and improvement of public transportation system cause positive effect on function of cities transportation’s system.

If this system work properly and increase it’s efficiency, not only users of this system, will be satisfied but also those who use their private car, observing this system and it’s efficiency, will attract and also it decreases traffic and negative impact of it on society.

Solutions to improve function and increase efficiency of public transportation system, involve extensive range of improving available transportation systems, developing program of public transportation , increasing transportation vehicles , using fast transportation systems for public transportation.
